The Expedition
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website for our Mount Toubkal 2010 challenge in aid of Help for Heroes.
In August 2010 a team of 6 of us will be ascending Mount Toubkal in Morocco. Mount Toubkal is a peak which stands within the Atlas Mountain Range in south-western Morocco. At 4,167 metres, it is the highest peak in North Africa. To add to the challenge, we are expecting temperatures in excess of 40′C at this time of the year.
The reason we are raising money for Help For Heroes is because we believe in supporting the brave soldiers who have risked all for their country – most of all those that were not fortunate enough to return home in good health. Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 in response to the desire of ordinary people to do something practical to help our wounded servicemen and women get the best help, support and futures that they deserve. If you want to help us to help them, please sponsor us on our Mount Toubkal 2010 challenge.
About Mount Toubkal
The mountain of Toubkal is a mountain peak in southwestern Morocco, located in the Toubkal National Park. At 4,167 metres, it is the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains and in North Africa. It is located 63 km south of the city of Marrakesh, in the Toubkal National Park.
The first ascent by Europeans was on 12 June 1923 by the Marquis de Segonzac, Vincent Berger and Hubert Dolbeau, but the mountain may have been climbed before that date.
The ascent during the summer (from May) is non-technical though complicated by steep and slippery scree slopes and altitude sickness. Sturdy boots and proper (windproof) clothing are required, and trekking poles are helpful on the scree. An ice-axe may be needed on the remaining snowfields in the early summer.

The heroes of England don’t wear football shirts and football boots.
The TRUE heroes of this country wear DPM and combat boots.
